Privacy Policy
Effective 12 October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information is handled when you use CyberSpaceRSS, why, and the choices and rights you have. In short:
- CyberSpaceRSS has no accounts, no advertising and no analytics, and the desktop app sends us nothing about you.
- What you save and choose stays on your own device.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
1. Who we are
CyberSpaceRSS is operated by Dayshaun Thompson, an individual based in Illinois, United States (“CyberSpaceRSS”, “we”, “us” or “our”). Where data protection law uses the term, we are the “controller” of the personal information described in this Policy. In the Microsoft Store, the App is published under the publisher name “Jae’s SW”, which is a name we publish under and not a separate company. You can reach us at privacy@cyberspacerss.com.
2. What this Policy covers
This Policy applies to the following (together, the “Services”):
- the CyberSpaceRSS desktop application for Windows and Ubuntu (the “App”);
- the browser preview at
app.cyberspacerss.com(the “Preview”); - this website at
cyberspacerss.com(the “Website”); - our download and update address,
downloads.cyberspacerss.com; and - email you exchange with us.
It does not apply to websites or services operated by others, including the news publishers and agencies the Services link to. Their own privacy policies apply to them.
3. Information we handle, and why
3.1 The App
Kept on your device. The stories the App has fetched, the stories you pin or save, and your settings (for example Everyday or Professional, and whether sensitive topics are shown) are stored in a folder in your own user profile: %APPDATA%\CyberSpaceRSS on Windows and ~/.config/CyberSpaceRSS on Ubuntu. Before a new version of the App first opens that data, it places a copy in a backups folder in the same location and keeps the three most recent copies. None of this is transmitted to us, and we have no access to it. Uninstalling the App does not delete the folder; you may delete it yourself at any time.
Requests the App makes. To do its job, the App connects to the internet from your device:
- News and advice sources. About once an hour, and when you choose to refresh, the App downloads the public feeds of the sources it reads. Those sources are currently Krebs on Security, The Hacker News, BleepingComputer, Dark Reading, The Record, SecurityWeek, the SANS Internet Storm Center, Schneier on Security, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the Zero Day Initiative, Malwarebytes Labs, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center, Get Safe Online and the UK National Cyber Security Centre. Each request goes directly from your device to the source, which receives what any website receives from a visitor: your IP address and the fact that a program identifying itself as CyberSpaceRSS requested its feed. That information goes to the source and not to us.
- Updates. A few times a day the App asks
downloads.cyberspacerss.comwhether a newer version is available and, if so, downloads it. That address is hosted for us by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and the technical details of the request in order to deliver the file. The request contains no account, device or advertising identifier and no information about how you use the App. A copy of the App installed from the Microsoft Store is updated by the Store instead. - Links you open. When you choose Read article, or follow a link in a guide or a warning, the page opens in your own web browser on the publisher's website.
The App contains no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or advertising technology.
3.2 The Preview
The Preview has no accounts and nothing to sign in to. Your choices in it (Everyday or Professional, whether sensitive topics are shown, how the list is sorted, which guides you have marked as done, and whether you have seen the introduction) are saved in your browser's local storage for that site, on your own device. They are not transmitted to us or to anyone else, and clearing your browser's site data removes them.
The Preview does not contact the news sources. We gather the news about once an hour and the Preview downloads the result from downloads.cyberspacerss.com. Opening the Preview therefore involves requests to Cloudflare, which hosts both, and to no one else, until you choose Read article.
3.3 The Website and our download address
The Website and the download address are hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. As with any website, each request is processed by the host and includes your IP address, the page or file requested, the date and time, and details your browser sends such as its type and language (“log data”). Cloudflare processes log data on our behalf to deliver the Services and to protect them against abuse and attack. Cloudflare may provide us with aggregate figures, such as the number of requests and the countries they came from, which do not identify individual visitors. We do not combine log data with any other information, and we do not use it to identify or profile you.
The Website loads its fonts, images and scripts from itself. Opening a page does not contact any advertising, analytics or social media company.
3.4 Email
If you write to us, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and the content of your message. We use that information only to read and answer your message and to keep a record of the matter. We do not add you to a mailing list.
3.5 Information we do not collect
We do not collect account or profile information, payment information, precise location, contacts, biometric identifiers, or information about your activity on other websites or apps. We do not ask for, and ask you not to send us, sensitive personal information.
4. Cookies, local storage and “Do Not Track”
We do not set cookies. The Preview uses your browser's local storage solely to remember the choices described in section 3.2, which is necessary to provide the service you have asked for. Cloudflare may set a cookie that is strictly necessary for security, for example when it needs to distinguish a person from automated traffic. The Services use no advertising or analytics cookies and no third-party trackers.
Because the Services do not track you over time or across other websites, they do not respond differently to “Do Not Track” signals or to the Global Privacy Control: there is nothing for those signals to switch off.
5. Legal bases for processing
If the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) applies to you, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): delivering the Website, the Preview and downloads securely, which requires the log data described in section 3.3; and answering messages you send us. These interests are not overridden by your rights, because the information involved is minimal and is what you would expect any website or correspondent to handle.
- Legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)): where we are required by law to retain or disclose information.
We do not rely on consent, because we do not carry out any processing that requires it.
6. How we disclose information
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We disclose personal information only:
- to service providers that process it on our behalf and under our instructions: Cloudflare, Inc. (hosting, delivery, security and email routing) and the provider of our email mailbox;
- where the law requires it, or where disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with legal process, to protect the rights, property or safety of any person, or to investigate abuse of the Services; and
- to a successor, if the operation of CyberSpaceRSS is transferred to a company or to another operator, in which case this Policy will continue to apply to information collected under it.
7. International transfers
We are based in the United States, and our service providers process information in the United States and in other countries where they operate. If you use the Services from outside the United States, your information will be processed in countries whose data protection laws may differ from those of your own. Where the GDPR applies, transfers by our service providers are made under recognised safeguards, such as the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, as set out in those providers' own data protection terms.
8. How long we keep information
- Information on your device stays until you delete it.
- Email is kept for as long as needed to deal with the matter and for a reasonable period afterwards, ordinarily no more than twenty-four months, unless a longer period is needed to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
- Log data is kept by Cloudflare in accordance with its own retention practices. We keep no separate copy.
9. Security
We limit the personal information we handle, serve the Services over encrypted connections, and design the App so that your data remains on your own device. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach of personal information that we hold, we will give notice as required by applicable law, including the Illinois Personal Information Protection Act.
10. Your rights and choices
Whatever your location, you may ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, by writing to privacy@cyberspacerss.com. Because the App and the Preview keep your data on your own device, in most cases the only information we hold is correspondence you have sent us. We will respond within thirty days. We may need to confirm that a request comes from you, for example by replying to the address the correspondence came from. We will not treat you differently for exercising any right.
10.1 European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland
Where the GDPR or equivalent law applies, you have the right to access your personal information; to have it rectified or erased; to restrict or object to its processing; to data portability; and to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority where you live or work. We make no decisions about you by automated means, and we carry out no profiling.
10.2 United States
Residents of California and of other states with consumer privacy laws may have rights to know, access, correct and delete their personal information, and to opt out of its sale, of its sharing for targeted advertising, and of profiling. We do not sell personal information, share it for targeted advertising, or profile, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve months. The categories of personal information we handle are identifiers (an IP address, processed by our host; and an email address, if you write to us) and the content of correspondence. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes (California Civil Code § 1798.83). If we decline a request, you may ask us to reconsider by replying to our response, and you may contact your state's attorney general.
We do not collect biometric identifiers or biometric information within the meaning of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.
11. Children
The Services are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13, or under the age at which consent to data processing may be given where you live. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy. When we do, we will change the effective date above. If a change is material, and in particular before any advertising, analytics or accounts are introduced, we will describe the change on this page before it takes effect.
